Where can I buy firewood logs?

If you’re wondering where to buy firewood, Lumberjacks has precisely what you need. We provide the premium kiln-dried firewood logs you need in various sizes that will work for your unique needs! Our firewood logs produce less smoke, ignite easier and are cleaner than alternatives. If you’re wondering how to buy firewood, call us at (815) 337-1451 to place your order.

Where can I get firewood that’s environmentally friendly?

At Lumberjacks, we produce firewood that’s better for the environment for a few reasons. First, we source all our firewood logs locally from trusted harvesters. Secondly, our logs are kiln-dried, which means they’re pest-free. This reduces the risk of spreading pest infestations from one region to another. Finally, our logs produce less smoke than seasoned or green alternatives, which is less harmful to both the atmosphere and your lungs!

What are kiln-dried logs?

Kiln-dried logs are like the luxury sports car of firewood. They’re the easiest to ignite, create the hottest fires and cut down on harmful emissions. The wood is also completely free of insects, mold and chemicals. It doesn’t get any better than that!

How do you make kiln-dried firewood?

At Lumberjacks, we have the process of making amazing kiln-dried wood down to a science. First, we purchase quality local firewood from trusted local harvesters. We then cut the wood to length and split it to a standard size, discarding substandard pieces. Finally, we heat and dry the wood in one of our seven cutting-edge dry kilns for high-quality lumber that is ready to burn immediately!

Do you sell seasoned firewood?

No. While some firewood providers season their wood, we have decided against it for one excellent reason: Kiln-dried wood is much better!

The problem with seasoning is it’s not worth it for the wood it produces. The process takes two years, and at the end of it, the wood still contains 24% moisture on a good day. On the other hand, kiln drying is quicker and produces a moisture level of 10-15%, which is ideal for burning.

What type of wood should I choose?

The answer to which wood you should choose, or which is the best burning firewood depends on what you will use the wood for. If you are looking for wood for an indoor fireplace, we’d recommend ash, oak or birch. This wood usually burns hotter and is cleaner to use. Oak and ash are also great choices for outdoor fires because they don’t produce much smoke.

If you want to cook with your wood, we’d recommend apple, cherry, hickory, pecan or walnut wood. These options produce a variety of delicious flavors that are sure to enhance your meals.

What firewood burns the hottest?

If you want a fire that will burn hot, you need kiln-dried hardwood. The hottest fires will be produced by hickory, but birch is a close second.

What firewood burns the longest?

Hardwood will burn significantly longer than softwood because it’s denser. Hickory and oak will generally burn the longest, but other hardwoods like cherry and birch are also good choices.

Where should I store my firewood?

We recommend storing your wood in an indoor, low-humidity environment, such as a garage or basem*nt. If you don’t have any indoor space for your wood, then an outdoor wood store is also a good option. By doing this, you will ensure it stays in its perfect kiln-dried state.

How do I protect my firewood from insects?

When you purchase firewood from Lumberjacks, it already comes free of insects since it’s kiln-dried. But to keep your wood insect-free, you should store it at least six inches off the ground. You can also consider storing it away from your home if you know you typically have a lot of insects in your house.

What is a face cord of wood?

A face cord is a stack of wood that measures 4’ high by 8’ wide by 16” deep. If you’re wondering how much firewood is in a cord, it’s three times the amount in a face cord. However, the number of pieces varies since it’s measured rather than counted. At Lumberjacks, we always use these exact measurements for every face cord we deliver.

When is it necessary to purchase bulk firewood logs?

If you plan to use firewood logs as your primary heat source during the winter, buying in bulk could save you a lot of money and hassle in the long run. Buying bulk firewood may also be a good idea if you plan to run your fireplace frequently or have regular bonfires throughout the year.

How much is firewood going to cost?

The cost of firewood can vary significantly based on the type and amount of wood you plan to purchase. Delivery costs can also be a factor. For the most definitive firewood price, contact us to get a free quote based on your unique needs.

Why shouldn’t I buy cheap firewood logs?

Purchasing high-quality kiln-dried firewood doesn’t only offer a better experience, but it eliminates several problems you’ll find in cheaper options. After all, you get what you pay for. A few of the problems with buying cheap firewood logs include:

  • Could be infested with unwanted pests
  • May be contaminated with chemicals, mold or fungus
  • Won’t burn as hot or as long as higher-quality options
  • Will likely produce a lot of smoke, which is terrible for your lungs
  • May not receive what you thought you were
  • Might not be an ideal wood species for burning

What wood should not be used for firewood?

Lumberjacks only offers kiln-dried hardwoods that are perfect for firewood. However, if you’re traveling and need to make do, some wood options shouldn’t ever be used as firewood for various reasons. These include:

  • Driftwood
  • Greenwood
  • Pine
  • Chemically treated or painted wood
  • Poison oak, ivy or sumac
  • Brazilian Peppertree
  • Any wood that is rotten, moldy or has an evident bug infestation

Is it cheaper to heat your home with firewood logs during the winter?

It’s definitely cheaper to heat your home with firewood during the winter if you have appropriate fireplaces or a wood stove. However, the trade-off is it’s also much more work than electricity, natural gas or oil. If you’re not up to the labor of using firewood for your primary heat source, you can still save a few bucks by using it as your secondary source.

Why do you charge for stacking while others do it for free?

The reason we charge for stacking is simple: it creates extra labor on our end. We feel the optional extra fee is reasonable and worth it for our workers’ incredible job neatly stacking it.

The truth is it would be a red flag if we didn’t charge for stacking. After all, companies that offer free stacking often do so because they don’t want you to stack it yourself. If you did, you could discover there’s less wood in your delivery than you paid for. But when they stack it, they can use crisscross stacking methods to make it look like there’s more wood there than there is.

How far does Lumberjacks deliver?

We deliver throughout the Greater Chicagoland and Southern Wisconsin regions. So, if you live anywhere in or between Chicago, Rockford and Milwaukee, we can come to you! Contact us today to schedule a delivery.
