Easy 5-minute flatbread pizza that your kids will love! This quick and easy pizza makes a wonderful summer or after school meal when you don’t want to spend much time in the kitchen.

Easy Flatbread Pizza Recipe - Kid Friendly (1)

Yesterday I shared my homemade soft flatbread recipe with you. It’s a very simple recipe to make your own flatbread at home. You may be thinking, why bother and make homemade flatbread when it’s available in all supermarkets and I can just buy it? Here are 4 reasons why I bake my own flatbread at home, and why you should too!

  • Homemade flatbread is tastier than store-bought. It’s fresher, made with high-quality ingredients, and tastes amazing! And you can use it to make homemade pizza.
  • You can control the amount of the salt that goes into your flatbread. Store-bought versions are usually packed with lots of salt and other nasties that you don’t even know how to pronounce.
  • This recipe is vegan. Most flatbreads sold in the supermarkets contain milk and sugar. I think that both ingredients are very unnecessary and just adds extra calories to your bread.
  • This recipe will save you a lot of money.
  • Making homemade flatbreads and flatbread pizza is really fun!
  • You can cook the pizzas on the grill, in the microwave, or in the oven.

However, we all get busy and sometimes just want to grab bread from the supermarket. You can totally do that and buy some flatbread, pita bread, or lavash to make easy homemade pizza.

I eat flatbread in different ways. It’s great for wraps, as a side to curries, to eat with dips such as hummus and baba ganoush. But making pizza is my favorite way to have flatbread! And you don’t need many pizza recipes, I usually either make this or just a classic yeast pizza dough.

I also have a fun grilled pizza recipe, so make sure to check it out!

What Is the Difference Between Flatbread and Pizza?

You may see flatbread pizzas and just flatbreads with toppings sold in the supermarket, but what’s the difference? For me a flatbread pizza must be made with pizza sauce, or any red sauce (sometimes white sauce too), and cheese. While flatbreads are usually topped with just cheese, vegetables, and sometimes meats but no sauce.

Is Flatbread Healthier Than Regular Bread?

It all depends on what the bread is made with. But a good flatbread can be a part of a healthy diet, and for some reason, I find that you can eat much less bread if you’re having flatbread instead of fluffy sandwich bread for example. You can make flatbread with 50% white and 50% whole wheat flour.

How Do You Make a Flatbread Pizza From Scratch?

  • Start by adding your base sauce to your flatbreads. You can either use a pizza sauce or a spaghetti sauce or even simpler, ketchup! Season it with house seasoning.

  • Add a little bit of pizza sauce or ketchup to your flatbreads, and spread it evenly with the back of a spoon.
  • Crush a clove of garlic and sprinkle it over the sauce or the ketchup. If you’re cooking for kids, then you might want to skip this step.

  • Top with grated cheese, and your choice of veggies. I like cherry tomatoes and yellow bell peppers. It’s a great way to get rid of the bits of veggies that you have in your fridge so that they don’t do to waste.

  • Sprinkle with more grated cheese, then either microwave it for 2 minutes or bake in the oven for 5 minutes. You can also cook this over the grill, just wait for the cheese to melt.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and enjoy!

Can I freeze flatbread?

These flatbreads freeze so well, just pop them in freezer bags and keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. You can also freeze flatbread pizza before baking.
