My favorite way to drink matcha is whisking a warm bowl of pure matcha tea, but this creamy smoothie is another great way to enjoy it. (If you are new to matcha, check out my matcha guide for more information.)

Lately we have been drinking these as a late morning pick-me-up because the weather is finally warming up. I find banana and matcha to be such a beautiful pairing.

This smoothie is refreshing, energizing, and antioxidant-rich. It also takes less than 5 minutes and only 4 ingredients to make!

Ingredients for Banana Matcha Smoothie

For this recipe you will need:

  • Ripe banana: Frozen if possible which gives it an even creamier texture.
  • Non-dairy milk: Choose your favorite. Most often we use homemade cashew milk.
  • Organic matcha powder: Be sure to find a good quality matcha with bright green color.
  • Pure maple syrup: Or other sweetener of choice.
  • Ice cubes

OMGG this is so delicious! I made it with honey instead of maple syrup because that’s what I had on hand but I can’t wait to try it with maple I’m sure it’s just as delicious!

It was so good but I had to use honey since we're out of maple syrup! Maybe add a bit more matcha powder by the way! Other than that it was really good thanks for sharing your recipe!

Added a few cubes of frozen mango instead of the syrup (I was out) and omitted the ice cubes. Needed some more milk but super yummy and the mango added some brightness.

Loved it! Didn't add the maple syrup since the banana was sweet enough. I used Unsweetened Almond milk. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Good recipe. My husband loves the matcha frappuccinos from starbucks, but those have a TON of processed sugar in them, so I was looking for a better option. I put a couple of pitted dates instead of maple sugar, and it came out nice and sweet, but the dates are still kind of chunky and got stuck in my straw. I'll use maple syrup next time if I have it lol. I had some matcha cling to the sides of my blender cup too. I read somewhere that if you whisk it with a small amount of hot water first, it'll dissolve better, so I might try that next time, and maybe add extra ice later to compensate. It's fun to experiment with smoothies!

So yummy! I've used oat milk, vanilla almond milk, vanilla almond/coconut milk either unsweetened or reduced sugar. I'm not a maple syrup fan but you really don't need it if the bananas are ripe. Try monk fruit or a little bit of agave. It's all to taste. Great for a hot day or for a nosh.
